Events and Visits
Holy Ramadan... A very special time for Markaz's Children
Even special needs children like Kiran participate in the holy month's festivities in their own special way. This is to share with you how Kiran enjoys Ramadan. Read on……..
Physically handicapped but full of courage and merriment, she eagerly awaits Ramadan all year long. And when it is there she savours the joy of offering namaz and fast regularly, thanks to the training by her mother. She reads Durud Sharif regularly before Iftar and prays for herself and her mother. Kiran loves to set the table for Iftar daily and does so very efficiently inspite of the fact that she cannot walk by herself and cannot hold things properly. Even on Eid ul Fitr she takes avid interest in decorating the home and enjoys shopping for the finest clothes to wear and showoff to her friends. Kiran loves Markaz and her classmates and enjoys sharing Ramadan stories with them. She has a special relationship with her teachers.
A polite and somewhat shy person, Kiran loves to share her joys and experiences with her mentors at school. It is because of them, that Kiran has progressed and blossomed into a confident girl. With her teachers' continuous attentions and affection Kiran is able to learn and apply all that she is taught at school. She understands just like a normal school girl the basic general scientific facts, mathematics, English writing and Urdu as well. Also she enjoys artwork, singing naats and songs on special occasions. The most important part of her development is the positive change her teacher's have brought in her personality.
Like Kiran there are so many children who are eager to enjoy life's opportunities like normal children. Markaz encourages their every little effort to help them feel normal in every sense! be it an attempt to fast, to help family members with daily preparations for breaking fast in the evenings for sharing their little joys with their class fellows and teachers or learning new things at school who are their only friends. We need to maintain this rhythm of happiness and enthusiasm among innocent youngsters to give them a better tomorrow and many more happy Ramadans!!!! Therefore, please help us in every way possible to keep the flame of hope burning.
Annual Result Day 2011 at Markaz-e-Umeed
Like normal children of schools, special needs children at Markaz-e-Umeed have their Annual Result Day at the end of the academic year. This year, the annual result day was organized in a very special ceremony at 'UMEED KE RANG' event on 27th April, 2011, Expo center. The results of the year long performance of each of the 140 students was announced and presented by the principal, Mrs. Afifa Waseem to the students. Special gifts were also presented to the children as tokens of appreciation and acknowledgment which had been contributed by students of BVS Parsi high school. The best part was the admiration and gratitude shown by some of the parents of special needs children to Markaz through small speeches for giving their child a better chance at leading his life with positivity. As mother of Anwar, a special needs student said " Markaz is doing a noble job in maintaining the sanctity of the rights of special needs children through it's efforts. As parents we need to support the teachers so that they may implement their hardwork with greater strength and thus help our children develop the confidence that is non-existant in them otherwise. I pray that may God bless Markaz with more success"! The joy and pride on the faces of parents standing with their child on stage while receiving the result envelope is the greatest return for Markaz-e-Umeed. Markaz's Children even expressed their feelings to the audience about their achievement. The happiness on the face of each child on receiving gifts and his envelope is simply priceless!!
RAMADHAN MUBARAK..
Markaz's Children celebrated Mother's Day at The City School, Junior E, Gulshan Network
"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." – Abraham Lincoln
Mother's day is one of the most beautiful event in the lives of all those who have had their mother's love. Mother is like the shelter under which we feel safe from all our worries and bad influences in life. Her love is like the fuel which makes us drive through the obstacles in life and progress inspite of them. Her selfless devotion to her children makes them bloom into confident individuals in life. Like the rest of the world mother's day is celebrated with much enthusiasm in Pakistan and Karachi in particular.
On this day children celebrate and enjoy the special person in their lives because of whom they have the best opportunities and have happiness around them always. Mother's Day was celebrated by students of the City School Junior E. Markaz's special children had been especially invited by the campus headmistress, Mrs. Muniza Waseem to participate where they presented a beautiful performance for the audience. Many of the parents of city school children applauded the beautiful presentation of the 'little angels' of Markaz-e-Umeed. The Regional Director, Mrs. Nudrat Khan who had been invited over as the Chief Guest, came to especially meet the group of Markaz-e-Umeed children and staff. She appreciated Markaz's efforts and the association of City School Network with Markaz's awareness efforts, particularly, Essay & Arts Competition 2010 and also expressed her willingness for her schooling system to collaborate with Markaz in the future as well. Such associations are like pillars of strength to Markaz's mission which is progressing everyday with God's grace.
